Courage Campaign has a long record of success on LGBT equality including marriage equality; saving lives by banning so-called “conversion” therapy for California minors; passing the FAIR Education Act to include LGBT civil rights in California educational curricula; ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”; the “Breakthrough Conversations Project”, a groundbreaking education and research effort generously supported by the Haas, Jr. Fund; working to end California tax loopholes for youth groups that discriminate like the Boy Scouts; and ending the Defense of Marriage Act.
National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has spent the last seven years spreading hate and bigotry across the country, and now it's time to say, "so long." Courage Campaign members have been on the frontlines, fighting back against NOM's same, old, tired attacks on equality every step of the way. And we've won! So, in NOM's last gasp effort to try and take down marriage equality during their “March for Marriage,” let's thank them for their years of hard work and failed efforts against marriage equality, and wish them farewell.
Seriously, on what planet does Rick Perry live?! At a recent event in San Francisco, the controversial GOP leader compared homosexuality to the serious disease of alcoholism in defense of so-called “gay conversion therapy” -- a widely discredited and immeasurably harmful practice used to “cure” being gay. Sign the petition to tell Gov. Perry to join the rest of us who live in reality and STOP promoting hateful, ignorant, and harmful anti-LGBT policies.
We must keep up the pressure on the Sultan of Brunei to stop the draconian laws in his country! The Sultan -- also the owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel, Hotel Bel Air, and other worldwide hotels in the Dorchester Collection -- recently adopted extreme anti-LGBT and anti-women Sharia law, including the legalized stoning to death of gay people and the jailing of unwed mothers. Join us to support a global boycott of the Sultan’s hotels.
It is unconscionable that the first openly gay NFL player, Michael Sam, could be fired simply for his sexual orientation. When Americans can still be legally fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states, we must take this opportunity to shine light on this legal discrimination in America and send President Obama a message he can't ignore.
Americans can still be legally fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states. The Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to address this problem, but Speaker Boehner refuses to take it up in the House. President Obama has an opportunity to protect as many as 16 million federal workers from discrimination with the swipe of his pen, and we think he should do it right now!
Speaker Boehner: Don’t stand in the way of equal employment for LGBT Americans. Allow a vote on ENDA.
Did you know you can still be fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states? The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. ENDA just passed the Senate with a bipartisan majority and Speaker Boehner at least needs to allow an up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives, even if he doesn't support the bill himself.
We did it! President Obama announced that he would sign an executive order to protect LGBT employees of federal contractors from workplace discrimination. This order will protect 16 million American workers -- making it the single largest expansion of LGBT workplace protections in our nation’s history. One thing is clear. This victory belongs to over 42,000 Courage members and our allies, who have tirelessly fought this battle every step of the way.Read More

As a major sponsor of the 2014 Sochi Olympics and self-proclaimed supporter of human rights, VISA has a responsibility to speak out againt Russia's persecution of millions of its own LGBT citizens. However, since the global business leader has remained silent about Russia's anti-LGBT laws -- despite outcry from thousands of Courage Campaign members and others -- we must have the courage to put our money where our mouth is and drop our business with VISA. Be sure to switch your accounts to other credit cards by Feb. 7th -- the opening day of the Olympics -- so they hear our protest!
The National Organization of Marriage's (NOM) is attempting to repeal the historic School Success and Opportunity Act (AB 1266) -- a new law that provides fair opportunities for transgender students to participate and succeed in school -- with a referendum that will move forward, pending a full count of signatures, onto the ballot in November. We must get to work now and prepare our campaign with our fearless coalition partners so we are ready to fight back!
6 states -- including Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Texas -- think they are above the law of the land and are refusing to allow same-sex married couples in the National Guard to register for spousal benefits despite a federal mandate. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered “immediate action” for these states to comply with the law, but so far they are not backing down. He's on our side, but now we need to make him finish the job.
We need your input before we gear up to take on the National Organization for Marriage (NOM)’s latest and most regressive attack against our transgender youth in California. They are currently gathering signatures for a 2014 ballot measure. If we’re going to act, we need to act now. As a member-driven organization, Courage Campaign must consult with our members before taking an official position on ballot measures. We need 60% of our members to agree with our staff recommendation.
Is Visa's support for LGBT rights real or just a marketing scheme? Tell them to use their influence as a major Olympic sponsor and speak out against Russia's anti-gay laws.
