LIFE Lantern Website Tracks Assembly Members Gun Safety Voting Record, NRA Ranking and LIFE Act Support as Californians Demand Action to Reduce Gun Violence

CALIFORNIA - On Tuesday, August 13th, six out of the the seven bills making up the Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act will be heard in the State Assembly’s Public Safety Committee. As Assemblymembers prepare to vote, the California-based CourageCampaign.org is launching a new website, The LIFE Lantern, to shine a light on each Assemblymember, their history of voting on gun safety bills, their grade from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and whether or not they are committed to supporting the LIFE Act.

“As a doctor and a new father, I think it's unconscionable that 365 California children were killed with guns in 2010. And every year about 5,000 Californians are either injured or killed by guns, including more than 1,000 murders,” explained Dr. Paul Song, the newly-appointed Executive Chairman of CourageCampaign.org.  “We must stop this carnage. It has many causes, but the first step forward is to give California the smartest, safest gun laws in the country: the LIFE Act.  If California Assemblymembers ignore the pressure of right-wing gun fanatics and stand with 61% of Californians in support of this legislation, next year less Californians will die from gun violence. It's that simple.”

The 61% statistic comes from a February 2013 Field Poll.  View the poll here: http://www.field.com/fieldpollonline/subscribers/Rls2441.pdf
