Making Mayor Lee Listen

Our petition demanding Mayor Lee take action to address the cost of living in San Francisco got overwhelming media attention thanks in part to a mention of "$4 toast." After the San Francisco Chronicle featured it on its homepage for more than a day, SFist and Curbed(SF) joined in. We clearly got the Mayor's attention, and now we need to make sure he takes meaningful action to help make San Francisco affordable for everyone once again. Click here to join the fight.

Victory on Props B & C

Together with our friends at ACCE, we helped defeat Props B and C in San Francisco thanks to our Progressive Voter Guide! More than 62% of voters rejected a ritzy development on the waterfront that would have only catered to multi-millionaires, while doing little to address San Francisco's affordable housing crisis. Now, Mayor Ed Lee needs to focus on making the city affordable for everyone. Click here to send him a message.

VICTORY: One step away from a major victory against the “War on Drugs”

Because of more than 13,000 Courage Campaign member-activists, the Local Control in Sentencing Act, SB 649, passed the Legislature and is now on Governor Brown’s desk. This historic and bi-partisan drug sentencing reform bill will save taxpayer dollars and reduce overcrowding in our prisons by allowing prosecutors to charge non-violent drug possession as a misdemeanor, rather than as a felony. However, we need your help to push this bill over the finish line.

Courage Campaign led the fight for gun safety and the Legislature listened. PROGRESS: We stopped Gov. Brown's irresponsible prison expansion plan

Thousands of Courage Campaign member-activists and our coalition partners stood up to the most powerful politicians in the state and made it clear that endless expansion of prison capacity for the benefit of private corporations has no place in California. Our tsunami of opposition forced Gov. Brown to agree to a compromise plan that could prevent the state from wasting $715 million of precious taxpayer dollars -- which were promised to restore our schools and vital services under Prop 30 -- and instead open up more opportunities for inmate rehabilitation. It's all up to the court now. We need your help to continue to fight for saner, more fiscally responsible reform of California's vast and deeply corrupt prison-industrial complex.

Thanks to our colleagues at the American Foundation for Equal Rights and the work you did to educate the public, build a majority for marriage equality and win more states, the Supreme Court ruled the proponents of Prop 8 do not have standing to defend the initiative in court, which means Judge Walker's ruling becomes final and Prop 8 ends! Marriages will resume late July or early August 2013. Now let's take this national!

Courage Campaign & DailyKos vs. Los Angeles Times Advertising Department. Guess who blinked?

After the Los Angeles Times Ad Department censored a member-funded print ad opposing sale of the paper to the right-wing Koch brothers, we delivered over 100,000 Courage, DailyKos and MoveOn signatures right to their front door, and changed the ad to include six footnote citations to the Times' own reporting on how right-wing and biased the Kochs are. They backed down. Click to see the ad and what's next!
